  • Confessional theology is what you intellectually confess to believe. Functional theology, on the other hand, reflects what you genuinely believe about God, as shown in your imagination, desires, words, tone, emotions, choices, and actions.

Aligning your confessional and functional theologies is difficult, and this misalignment causes many problems, such as addictions, anxiety, bitterness, depression, overthinking, shame, hopelessness, and confusion about your purpose.

When your confessional and functional theologies are misaligned, you are like a wandering, withering, fruitless vine in need of realignment.

Jesus articulates this reality when He says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” He instructs, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:1, 4-5 ESV).

Notice that Jesus says, “abide in Me.” To abide in Jesus means loving Him and His Word with all your heart. Biblical counseling supports this process, helping you remain connected to Jesus. As you do, you will witness Him developing the Fruit of the Spirit in your life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

With the careful hands of truth in love, biblical counseling gently uproots anger, anxiety, bitterness, sinful desires, and misplaced hopes–things that cause us to grow misaligned from God–replacing them with seeds of biblical truth that flourish upward in faith along the trellis of trusting God.

  • Moms out there, confessional theology is what you intellectually confess to believe. Functional theology, on the other hand, reflects what you genuinely believe about God, as shown in your imagination, desires, words, tone, emotions, choices, and actions.

Take a moment to consider how well your confessional and functional theologies align. How closely do they match up? Reflecting on this can provide valuable insights.

Misaligned confessional and functional theologies occur when your heart strays from living out biblical truth. It wanders into worry, fear, overthinking, guilt, anger, shame, and exhaustion rather than resting in alignment with Jesus and biblical truth. Yet there is hope!

Biblical counseling can help realign your faith and trust in God so that your wandering heart clings to God’s Word and love, abides in Jesus, and bears much fruit.

What People Are Saying

  • “My biblical counseling experience with Raquel Warren has been very transformative for me, as she has the unique ability to meet me where I am at and prompt resonating questions that challenge me to think deeper biblically. Not only does she challenge me to think more biblically, but she also offers practical guidance for me to practice living out the truths of Scripture. Overall, I have learned so much throughout my time with Raquel and know that my mind has been truly transformed. I am now much more aware of my thinking patterns and am equipped with the tools to naturally think biblically in my day-to-day life.”

  • “When I started Biblical Counseling, I felt hopeless and desperate to save my marriage. I was relying on my feelings and emotions instead of trusting God. Through counseling, I have learned that no matter what I am feeling in the moment, I can choose to glorify God. Choosing to be more Christlike has led me to rely on and TRUST God fully, and He has shown me, over and over again, that when I trust Him, He bears the Fruit of the Spirit through me —Galatians 5:22-23. Not only has Biblical Counseling helped me, but my family has also experienced the Fruits of the Spirit by choosing to rely on God alone. I am so grateful.”

  • “When I first started biblical counseling, I was weighed down by anxiety that hurt my relationships and often led to anger outbursts. Through counseling, I’ve learned to rest in the Lord, lean on His Word, and glorify Him better in my daily life, and my relationships have grown so much better. It’s brought me greater peace, freedom, and closeness with Him.”

  • "I’ll be honest — I was one of those people who thought, “I’m good. I’ve been a believer for years, I’m in the Word regularly… I don’t need biblical counseling.” Well, turns out, that was my first clue that I actually did need it. Since beginning my journey with Raquel, the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that God has poured into my heart and mind have completely shifted the trajectory of my walk with the Lord. I see things from a deeper perspective, and I’m learning how to apply His truth in ways that are transforming me from the inside out. People around me have noticed it too — which is such a mighty gift. I’m now that person who says, “Everyone should do biblical counseling. No, really — everyone.” The things God can do in this kind of intimate, Spirit-led setting are nothing short of life-changing. I'll never be who I was- thankfully. I cannot say enough good things about Raquel and the way she speaks truth in love. Don’t wait another day — you’ll thank yourself (and probably wonder why you didn’t start sooner)."
